Today saw the visit of Templeogue Synge Street (TSS) to Longmeadows for our last official game before the summer break. It is hard to believe that we are nearly half way through the 2024 season already but as each week goes by, we can see improvements in this new St Brendan's u11 squad.
The game started with TSS on the front foot. But attack after attack on the St Brendan's goal was repelled by the defence led by Taha, Oliver, Eduard and PJ. And what did get past them was stopped by Seamus in goal.
As the half went on the St Brendan's players visibly tired and the TSS attackers finally got through for some well taken scores. As we approached half time the St Brendan's team found their second wind and it was them who attacked like a swarm of bees. After a great run, Daniel scored from distance to get the team on the scoreboard. Then George followed with another point, his first of the game. The forwards were on top and Michael and Jake worked hard to make things difficult for the TSS defence. We very nearly ended the half with a goal but John's effort went narrowly wide.
The second half again saw a strong start from TSS and a revamped St Brendan's defence, marshalled by Logan and Garid were kept busy. They had lots of help from Josh and Eduard who covered every blade of grass on the pitch. We saw some great second half scores from PJ, George, Jake and Daniel. As we neared the final whistle, John finally got the score his performance deserved - a goal to finish the game in style.
A special mention for Oliver who had his first match back with St Brendan's in a while, but he showed great energy and will be a big asset to this team. With some great displays all round, this week's player of the week was a difficult choice for the coaches. The improvements from our newest members Garid, Taha was great to see but player of the week went to George who finished the game with 2 points and a great all round performance.
Team: Seamus, Taha, PJ, Garid, Oliver, John, Daniel, Josh, Michael, Jake, Logan, Eduard and George.
