Two weeks ago the St Brendan’s Football 1st XV, sponsored by Dynamic Safety Solutions, had a bit of a false start to their 2025 season when the opponents, Skerries Harps, gave a walkover.
Then last week, the same thing happened to the St Brendan’s Hurlers, they too had a false start to their 2025 season, except this time the opponents, Fingallians, did not have a suitable pitch available.
So onto March and both football teams finally got some action. The 1sts away to Round Towers Clondalkin, and the 2nds away to O’Tooles.
There was however disappointment for both teams as the 1sts posted a 1-12 to 1-9 loss. Diarmuid ‘Dempsey’ Cooney scored the goal for The Dark Force when his speculative high ball flew past a forest of players arms in a crowded parallelogram, the ball may have made contact with a hand on its way to the net, but nevertheless, Cooney will claim it.
Meanwhile in Clare Hall, the Football 2nd XV, in partnership with Stoneybatter Pride Of Place, also fell to a loss against O’Tooles on a 2-15 to 2-7 scoreline.
Andy ‘The Landlord’ Moran and Darragh ‘Cadillac’ O’Keeffe with the green flags, but it was Niall Mc Dermott who will go down in St Brendan’s folklore by raising the clubs first ever orange flag in a competitive match with a score from outside the 40 meter arc during the first half.
Both football teams will bid for a first win of the season in three week’s time with home games against Templeogue Synge Street for the 1sts and St Jude’s for the 2nds.
