Round 2 of the Go Ahead Adult Football leagues saw both St Brendan’s Football teams in home action this International Women’s Day.
First up were the 1st XV in their Round 2 fixture against Beann Eidair, in a rematch from the Junior 1 Club Quarter Final last September.
The Men from Howth, picked up where they left off from last September to run out comfortable 4-15 to 1-7 winners, particularly in the second half with the away side leading 2-8 to 1-3 at Half Time.
For The Dark Force, Harry ‘1991’ Beggy scored the goal, The Bombscare Donal Clarke score two single points from free in’s and Tom ‘Klaebo’ Grainger chipped in with a single.
Later in the afternoon, The St Brendan’s 2nd XV renewed rivalry with St Colmcille’s who had some titanic tussles with the 2nds in previous years and were also the 2nds first opponents in competition in 2007.
But the Junior side form Swords, like Beann Eidair, also returned a score of 4-15 in their victory with The Darkest Force scoring 1-10, with Dylan 'Not The Galwayman' McHugh raising the green flag.
But it wasn’t all doom and gloom. Last Wednesday the 4th, the St Brendan’s Ladies 1st XV, sponsored by McGowans of Phibsborough, commenced their 2026 season.
Yes, I know the clocks have yet to Spring forward, but the Ladies Football season has started earlier in recent seasons.
The Female Dark Force travelled to Garristown to take on the local team, i.e. The Piano Smashers, in the opening round of the GoAhead Division 4A Cup, and in a high scoring encounter, St Brendan’s prevailed in a 9-9 to 3-12 victory.
