Every time St Brendan’s take on Ballyboden St Enda’s, regardless of code or age grade, this writer loves nothing more than to have a sneak peek at the Ballyboden website, reading the match reports and seeing what they are saying about us and at the same time, take some ideas from their website and use them here on ours. I do admit that whoever writes the match reports for the Ballyboden St Enda’s website, is the best in the business. Hopefully, this person is here in Longmeadows as the two sides clash in Go Ahead AFL10A.

And the Ballyboden match reporter would like what he saw in the first half as his side got the opening score of the match with a point from play. However, The Darkest Force took the lead with a well taken goal from The Banner Raiser Brian Hobbins, showing no ill effects from his efforts against St Patricks Donabate yesterday.

Ballyboden got a goal and three points on the spin when The Landlord Andy Moran got the first point for the home side after good work from Ritchie ‘Blackmore’ O’Hara, also showing no ill effects from his efforts against St Patricks Donabate yesterday.

Ballyboden looked like they have the match wrapped up as a contest 23 minutes into the first half by scoring another two goals and a point. But St Brendan’s ensured that the vistors had to fight for the win when Eoghan ‘Quinn Roux’ Fallon hit an excellent two pointer following a brilliant pass from Frenchman Lorenzo to Good Time Niall Rogers and finally Fallon.

St Brendan’s somehow, got themselves back in the contest with a well taken goal from Brian Hobbins. Ballyboden were too casual in their shooting when Ken Byrne made a clearance to The Wild Atlantic Way Paul Hickey and then to Cillian Gallagher who made the pass to Hobbins for the goal. So Half time and Ballyboden lead 2-3 to 3-5.

Ballyboden quickly ended the match as a contest with a goal and a point after 5 minutes. Despite two goal attempts, one from Hobbins and one from Billy Kelly, when trying to pounce on a John ‘Tesla’ Tuffy goal bound shot that was going wide, St Brendan’s sole 2nd half score was a free in from Hobbins in the 12th minute.

Ballyboden were just too casual in their shot selections, hitting shots wide or straight to either Byrne or to one of the full back line of The Dream Maker Sean Dardis, Tuffy and Hickey, as the contest fizzled out to its inevitable conclusion. Ballyboden did get a fifth goal late on to win the contest on a final score of 5-11 to 2-4.

Next up for St Brendan’s 2nd XV is a June 5th fixture at home to Naomh Mearnog.

Now, what would the Ballyboden website say about this match???
